The IU Center for Bioethics (IUCB) is pleased to announce our Spring Event Schedule!
IU Bioethics Grand Rounds occur 5-6 times per year, led by faculty from IU and elsewhere discussing their work and important topics in bioethics and related fields. The sessions are hybrid (in-person on IUSM campus and over Zoom) and include time for Q and A and discussion. The sessions are recorded and archived on the IUCB website here. The Grand Rounds for Spring 2025 are:
Lauren Nephew, MD, MA, MSc, Faculty Investigator at the IUSC, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and the Assistant Vice Chair of Health Equity at IUSM, will present “Balancing Acts: Navigating Distributive Justice, Health Equity, and Scarce Resource Allocation in Liver Transplantation” on Thursday, February 13th, at noon, in Walther Hall (R3) (register here).
Meghan Halley, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Standford Center for Biomedical Ethics, will present “Whose values define the value of new genomics technologies for rare disease diagnosis and treatment?” on Thursday, March 13th, at noon location TBD (register here).
Paul Han, MD, MA, MPH, Senior Scientist in the Behavioral Research Program (BRP) at the National Cancer Institute, will present “Clinical Uncertainty & Medical Decision-Making” on Thursday, May 15th, at noon location TBD (register here).
The IU Center for Bioethics hosts the annual Dr. Williams S. Silvers Holocaust, Genocide, and Contemporary Bioethics Lectureship. The Silvers lectureship addresses bioethical issues raised by the Holocaust and strives to focus healthcare workers on the morality of their actions and to ground contemporary conflicts in the lessons of history.
Amber Comer, JD, PhD, Affiliate Faculty at the IUCB, Associate Professor in the School of Helth & Human Science at IUSM, and Director of Ethics Policy and Secretary of the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs at the AMA, will be giving this year’s annual Silvers Lecture on April 24, 2025 at the IUI Campus Center.
